Managing challenging Behaviour

On completion of this programme it is anticipated that registered nurses who attend:

  • Will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the various definitions of behaviours that challenge as well as the underlying causes of same
  • Will have gained insight and understanding of key theoretical frameworks which underpin best practice models of behaviours that challenge identification and management in ways that promote person hood and dignity of the person displaying such behaviours
  • Will have participated in discussions to identify participants constructs in relation to behaviours that challenge and explored the physical, social, emotional, recreational and spiritual needs of people who reside in nursing homes and have a history of behaviours that challenge
  • Will have participated in group work emanating from analysis of case studies
  • Will have explored their own roles as nurses who advance holistic responses to complex needs of service users adopting a range of strategies and best practice in care delivery in line with local policy and procedures in this regard
